Core of Humanity founding story:

The Founder of Core of Humanity, Janet Norman was born in abject poverty in a family of 10 children in Eastern Kenya in the early 90’s.  After her primary school education, Janet’s family could not afford to send her to high school. She stayed home working on the farm with her mother. By the Grace of God, in 2007 a well-wisher linked Janet to African Child Foundation, an American based Christian non-profit. ACF supported Janet’s high school and University education. This period was both a happy and sad time for Janet. Happy that she had finally joined high school and sad that she had left all her friends back at home enduring the same struggles and unable to go to school due to extreme economic hardships. It bothered her to see her friends stay at home instead of being in high school like her.

During school holidays, Janet would visit her village in Eastern Kenya and meet her friends

Back in school Janet would think a lot about her friends and the struggles they faced back at home. It was in her moments of solitude and deep thought, Janet came up with a plan to start an organization that would help send her friends to school. In August 2009 while in her morning preps, Janet wrote the words ‘Core of Humanity’ in her notebook. That would be the name of the organization that would raise funds to send her friends to school. Janet dreamt of an organization that would respond to the very core and desperate needs of humanity. She did not know how to go about it at that young age, but she kept that ambition at heart. Janet went on to finish her high school and university education. In 2020, Janet started the registration process of Core of humanity as an NGO. Today Core of Humanity is a registered NGO in Kenya, educating children and serving families in the poorest and hardest parts of Kenya.
